Steak and onion pie

Personal story:
Steak pie was one of my dad’s favourites. He was born in 1898 and was a great cooker. This dish was originally done with mince beef but I changed it to steak. He liked it very much. When I came home from Germany, he would always ask me to make it and I would also freeze a lot of this dish.

Pastry brush, frying pan, large sauce pan, wooden spoon, slotted spoon, rolling pin, knife, pie dish or large dinner plate.

1 kg best steak, 3 large onions, 2 packets (500 g each) ready made short crust pastry, 2 rich beef stock, 1 used knorr rich beef stock, salt, fresh ground pepper to your personal taste, 1 egg, 1 oxo cube, oil to fry, butter, cornflour.

Steps
Heat oven gas mark 6. Cut steak into cubes approximately 1inch or to your liking. Slice onions to your liking.
In frying pan add oil and a knob of butter, wait until hot, add meat and fry until brown, do in batches, add to saucepan. Once the meat has been cooked, fry onions in oil with butter until is translucent, add to a saucepan. Add some water just above the meat, or more if you like more gravy. Put knorr stock cubes in, add salt and pepper, cook on a slow simmer till the meat is tender, add oxo cube if you like. Thicken the meat and onions with butter mixed with corn flour, until you are happy with the thickness of the mixture. Using the slotted spoon to drain excess gravy. Add the top crust, roll pastry out to fit into your pan or plate. Add meat and onions using the slotted spoon to drain the excess gravy. Add the top crust. Whisk your egg, put slits on top pie crust. Put in oven until golden brown.
