I learned this recipe 46 years ago from my husband’s godmother, who would be 110 years old now. I did not like spending much time in the kitchen and cooked only fast and easy to make food. This cake requires no preparation and there’s always some flour, a packet of butter and a jar of jam in the pantry. It is a quick and easy desert for unexpected guests or whenever you crave for something sweet.

0.5 litre of kefir, 24 tablespoons of flour, 0.5 litre of any jam, 2 teaspoons of baking soda, 1 glass of sugar, 200 grams of butter or margarine.
Melt the butter in a saucepan. Activate the baking soda in kefir. Add jam, sugar and flour and stir everything until you get a thick runny paste. Pour the paste into the baking pan. Bake in the oven preheated to 180°C for 30 – 40 minutes.

The taste of this cake depends on the jam used. The amount of flour should be controlled by the thickness of the paste. The paste must be runny but not too thin.
Which health diseases can this dish help to combat?
Depends on the jam: blueberries are good for the eyes, cranberries and bilberries have bactericidal effect and help to restore intestinal flora after treatment with antibiotics.
Which season is the best time for having the dish?
I usually bake this cake in winter when I have lots of homemade jams.
